The problem arises because linguistic expression of thinking is a conscious process in which a person is making active choices based upon his or her intentions and motivation. This is a limitation of the coding process that must be borne in mind when evaluating the results of coding. Having said this, the codings do seem to suggest some clear patterns, over the three phases of the activity.
